bockswieseOn the way from Goslar to Hahnenklee-Bockswiese, you firstly pass our idyllic district of Bockswiese where there are countless comfortable holiday homes and apartments, small guest-houses and family-run hotels. You are guaranteed to find the ideal location to recharge your batteries. Bockswiese is less than five minutes from Hahnenklee and can be quickly reached on foot via “Märchenweg”. In summer, life centres around the small resort park with the historic waterwheel where, for example, the traditional barbecues of the Tourist Association are held as well as the Bockswiese Summer Festival in August.

A popular destination for young and old: Kuttelbacher Pond is an idyllically beautiful natural bathing pond in the woods with rowing boats and pedalos for hire. Food and refreshments are available and it even has its own barbecue area. It is simply the perfect spot for swimming or sunbathing, for enjoying long walks or for playing water sports on your own or in the company of lots of pleasant people – or just relax and recharge your batteries if you so wish. It is also possible to hire the barbecue cabin at the woodside pond, for convivial summer evenings with friends for example. When the weather is fine, the woodside pond is open from May to September every day from 9 am to 6 pm.

Our newly designed playground with a climbing spider, swings, rope slide and water playpark will keep the young ones amused. By the way, Bockswiese too has its own attractive resort park around Pochwerkplatz which even boasts an historic waterwheel.

They used to be a common sight for visitors to the Harz – goats on the flowering mountain meadows. The farm, located on the edge of Buntenbock in Moosholzweg, is a reminder of these “good old days”. Every Saturday, from 9 am to 12 noon, various goat’s milk products are sold at the farm, including various flavours of curd cheese, white-rind cheese, semi-hard cheese with various fat levels and added herbs and home-made sour cream butter.

Enter "Lautenthals Glück" mine in Lautenthal and let yourself be enchanted by the mining flair of past centuries by the experienced mine guides. The silver mine is one of the oldest mines in the Upper Harz which can still be accessed. On three levels visitors experience, for example, how different mining equipment works and an underground navigable waterway. The ore boat harbour is a romantic subterranean location for celebrations, an “underground Venice”.

The super slide, which is 550 m long and with a difference in altitude of 130 m, offers thrills and spills for the whole family. Tobogganing is also fun here in summer! The start of the run, which is also the set-off point for a number of pleasant rambles, can be easily reached using one of the modern double chairlifts. On the summit of Matthias Schmidt Mountain, a perfect spot for a rest with a breathtaking view over the Harz mountains is Matthias-Baude restaurant.

To the north of Bad Grund, directly on the B 242 Harz high road, there rises to a height of 563 m Iberg Mountain (from the yews previously found here); a some 5 km long cave system, of which around 200 m – the Iberg Dripstone Cave – are easily accessible. The multicoloured shimmering stalactites and stalagmites are named after Harz legendary figures on account of their peculiar shapes. The cave is open all year round.

A “must” for all anglers, ramblers and campers! The ships of “Okersee Shipping Line” run pleasure trips all year round on the reservoir. You can sail, swim or row on Innerste Reservoir or circumnavigate Grane Reservoir by bicycle. With a huge, widely branching area of water, the reservoirs are the perfect spot for all manner of leisure activities.

The Upper Harz Mining Museum in the Zellerfeld district is one of the oldest museums in Germany devoted to the history of engineering. The historical development of ore mining in the Harz, the hard working conditions and the ingenuity of the miners are presented in various exhibitions and in the original mining installations outdoors. You can visit the museum every day from 10 am until 5 pm.

You can find out about the great diversity of native and exotic herbs and spices in Altenau Herb Garden. In addition to long-forgotten household remedies, you will find medicinal herbs from “God’s pharmacy”. In the herb gallery you can try and buy over 100 herb and spice mixes, tea blends, home-made seasoning oils and our own herb liqueurs. The herb garden is open all year round, also in winter, daily from 10 am until 6 pm.
